GHP®, a multinational social movement of friends with shared sentiments, in virtue of its ecological mission of universal responsibility, declares itself against the construction of a highway through the ecological HEART of the TIPNIS. If the Villa Tunari – San Ignacio de Moxos portion of the highway is constructed through the ecological heart of the Isiboro-Sécure National Park:

More than half a million trees will be destroyed in the Indigenous Territory (TIPNIS), due to deforestation o fan area 70 kilometers long and 50 meters wide.
600,000 hectares will be deforested in the long-run, within a timeframe of 18 years, as an effect of the construction of the highway. This is equivalent to 64.5% of the forest coverage in the TIPNIS.
With this deforestation, 90 million tons of carbon dioxide will be lost, with a value of up to 200 million dollars.
15,000 indigenous people, grouped in 64 communities, will be directly affected.
3400 species of flora and fauna, which live among the trees, will be endangered. Among these are various endemic species and others that are in danger of extinction, such as the emblematic pink river dolphin.

GHP®, supports the viable alternatives offered, so that authorities can consider the construction of this portion of the highway through less environmentally sensitive areas, options which can be financed with resources from international carbon markets.

GHP®, sustains that, in virtue of Article 30 and concordant sections of the New Bolivian Constitution, which makes reference to the Rights of the Indigenous, Native and Rural Nations and Peoples, with an emphasis on Points 7 and 15, Paragraph II, the pertinent authorities must consult them by means of appropriate procedures and, in particular, through their institutions, on legislative or administrative measures that may affect the TIPNIS, respecting and guaranteeing the right to obligatory prior consultation by the state, in good faith, and in agreement, especially since the Isiboro-Sécure Park is considered a sacred place in the TIPNIS within the cosmovision of “living well” in a good relationship with Mother Earth (policies which sustain the Plurinational State of Bolivia).

15% of all flora species in Bolivia are found in the TIPNIS!
GHP is not against the construction of the highway itself.

GHP proposes considering viable alternatives so that the highway or any civil Works will NOT cut through or affect the ecosystems of Isiboro-Sécure National Park (which is PROTECTED IN TWO CATEGORIES – as a National Park and as a Native Indigenous Territiry), nor any of its zones of influence or buffer zones.

The TIPNIS is not only an indigenous territory, it is a PROTECTED NATIONAL PARK. Therefore, it is IN THE INTEREST AND IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY BOLIVIAN TO PROTECT IT.
The TIPNIS is not only protected by the Bolivian constitution and laws (the Environmental law, the Protected Areas Regulations, and other connected laws), it is also safeguarded under ILO Convention 69 and other international commitments. Therefore, it is OF INTERNATIONAL INTEREST AND RESPONSIBILITY.
